At Civitas, we believe America and the world are richer places because of the endless variety of people, each with a unique story and a singular voice. We believe all human beings are created equal and all deserve the same rights, respect, and compassion.
Civitas is a privately owned site and does not currently pay for submissions, but if you have an article idea or editorial to share, please email us and tell us what you’re wanting to say. We are looking to add more diverse voices as a benefit to our readers, so we are especially interested in the experiences of ethnic and religious minorities, women, immigrants, the LGBTQ community, and journalists. We would also like to hear from working-class Caucasians and people who voted for Donald Trump in 2016, especially those in Southern and Midwestern states. If you don’t fit in any of these categories, we might still be interested in sharing your story with our readers, so go ahead and drop us a line.
If you want to share your story on Civitas, it will have to meet three criteria:
- It must be interesting to others. Everyone finds their own lives to be fascinating, but readers find the most value in a perspective different from their own, a story they haven’t heard before. Tell us what’s different about you and what others can learn from it.
- It must be well-written. You don’t have to be Hemingway, but your ideas and opinions need to be clearly expressed in a coherent, understandable, engaging way, using correct grammar; otherwise, people won’t want to read what you’ve written. If your story is a good one and you need a little help with the mechanics, we may be able to help.
- No hate. We value a wide variety of viewpoints, from the far right to the far left, as long as those viewpoints retain basic human decency and respect for others. If you advocate for oppression or violence against any group of people, you are not welcome. There is no place for that in the America we believe in.
Thank you all for reading and supporting Civitas.
